it wasn't my intention at all. :-|

Not your fault. There is still a slightly hostile athmosphere around
the use cases of cdrtools. I am generally trying to de-escalate.
In this case i should obviously have contacted you first.

I was actually going to do that for my own bootloader
[...] xorriso has the value 4 as the default.

I meanwhile found in libisofs that one must specify a boot load size by
el_torito_set_load_size() or else one would get size 0 in the boot catalog.
This needs fixing. (0 is a valid value for EFI but not for BIOS.)

xorriso inherited its default value about 8 years ago from a libisofs
demo program.

There are dim memory echos that either ISOLINUX or GRUB developers told me about their reason to load only 2048 bytes. Something about not all BIOS
implementations being able to load more than 4. But i did not find that
mail yet.

I will probably keep default 4 for generic xorriso and add an option
to determine the size from the boot image file.
For xorriso -as mkisofs i will strive for better compatibility.
libisofs needs a safety cap for the case that el_torito_set_load_size()
is not called.

Thank you for the bug report. I will inform you when a new development
snapshot of GNU xorriso is available for testing.

As soon as your slightly exotic ISO is available, please give me a pointer to it so that i can put it into my collection of ISOs for repacking tests.

Have a nice day :)

Thomas
