That URL really does yield an old config.guess from 2008. It refers to
the *CVS* repository for config.*, and I suppose 2008 is the last time
that was updated.
The URLs for current versions of config.guess and config.sub are:

https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/config.git/plain/config.sub
Markus, could you please try the scripts from these URLs? Please also
let us know where you saw references to the old CVS repository so we
can try to get them updated.
