FYI, we'll be plotting against Total World Domination @ 30c3! Har! Har!

https://events.ccc.de/congress/2013/wiki/Assembly:Youbroketheinternet

The GNUnet Alpha version lynX mentions is 0.10, the first minor
version bump in 2 years! The latest 0.9 release, 0.9.5a, was made last
year at about the same time. Expect awesomeness.

Ladies and gentlemen, from 27th through 30th of December there
will be more riots in Hamburg. Not in defense of the Rota Flora
or the Lampedusa refugees, but about Privacy and Democracy in
general. Threats that undermine all other democratic endavour.

In case you missed the developments, out of the GNU Consensus
and Social Swarm initiatives something even broader has emerged,
the #youbroketheinternet master plan for a GNU network stack.

We still aim for the holy grail of distributed social networking,
but we realize that we have to fix hardware, operating systems
and routing on the way. Social is not enough, but it is the key
for an organic replacement of e-mail and other broken tools.

So we are running twelve panel/workshop sessions at the 30c3
with distinguished speakers such as Jon Solworth, Tanja Lange,
Dan J. Bernstein, Peter Hintjens, Lunar, Bunnie, infinity0, cjd,
Leif Ryge and the usual suspects such as Christian Grothoff and
Jacob Appelbaum. tg and myself from secushare will be speaking
mostly about social APIs, multicast and scalability issues.
Look at http://youbroketheinternet.org for the schedule.

If you still don't know what I'm talking about, here is a press
release (English) http://youbroketheinternet.org/2013-12.en oder
alternativ (Deutsch) http://youbroketheinternet.org/2013-12.de

++++

On the last day we're presenting a law proposal for the EU to
enforce privacy and encryption on all telephones and computers
sold after 2014. Just to make it clear that there are valid
alternatives to being shock frozen and speechless. And that it
is naive to ask the government to simply not spy on us if there
is no independent control power to watch over the government
(you might have heard of checks & balances...).

Therefore we appreciate the best-intended efforts of the writers
and literature Nobel price winners, but would like them to support
actual protection rather than just requesting new promises from
our leaders. You can inspect the drafting process of the proposal
at http://youbroketheinternet.org/legislation/ (and forward it to
Eva Menasse or Juli Zeh if you happen to know them.. ;-))

No, there is still no new prototype of secushare after last year's,
but GNUnet is releasing an alpha with built-in encrypted telephony.
If you have some CPU cycles to spare over the holidays, consider
cloning the GNUnet SVN and fumble around whatever needs improvement.

++++

Happy festivities and see you at a New Year's party...
