[Cvs-cvs] Recovering the versions listed in the CVS folder ENTRIES file |

Is there a way to recover the exact versions listed in an ENTRIES file?
Let me explain:
If you archive the contents of the CVS control folder, you will have the
files
ENTRIES, ENTRIES.OLD, ENTRIES.EXTRA, ENTRIES.EXTRA.OLD, REPOSITORY and
ROOT
If you look in the ENTRIES file, you will notice that for each file, a
version is noted.
If the file was associated to a label, the label will also be mentioned
with the file's entry.
If you then delete the file, is there a way to recover it without having
to open the ENTRIES file and look up the file's originally-checked-out
version?
For example, if the file was checked out by a label, its version is
sticky and if I invoke CVS UPDATE in the folder, the exact-same version
of the file will be retrieved.
However, if the file was originally checked-out from the head, issuing
the CVS UPDATE command may NOT retrieve the original revision that was
checked-out, it will retrieve the version that is at the head at the
moment I request the update.
Is there a command that I can give CVS to recover the original revisions
of the files? Other than manually looking up each file in the ENTRIES
file?
Thank you for your help
