Error starting ddd

I  have recently installed ddd on a linux host and I cannot get the
debugger to start.  I receive an error message that it can't open the
tty /dev/pts/?.  I have tried editing the init file in the .ddd
directory to turn blockTTYinput off, but I still get the same error.

Any help would be appreciated.
