ddd on RedHat7

When trying to compile ddd 3.2.1 on RedHat 7.0 (both out-of-the-box)
I have configure'd it with no warnings but at make I have run into:

PannedGE.C: In function `void __static_initialization_and_destruction_0 
(int, int)':
PannedGE.C:88: non-lvalue in unary `&'
make[1]: *** [PannedGE.o] Error 1


Info on the system:
gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.0)

As I am no C++ specialist, I have no idea of the error as it happens in a sort 
of a 
constructor. Any hints?
