problem starting ddd

Hello, evribody!
I've a problem starting ddd.
I've downloaded the recent ddd version 3.3.1, compiled it, but when I tryed
to run ddd,
it wrote me:
Error1: no default Ddd file found.
To solve this problem yo can:
set XAPPLRESDIR environment variable to the location of Ddd
or
set DDD_HOME environment variable to the location of ddd/Ddd
or (Another two options less clear to me).

I performed what was advised in first two options, but when I tryed to run
dd again, it wrote me the same error mesage as before.

What should I do?
