Customizing command toolbar buttons

I have read the documentation, but am still a bit confused about customizing the command toolbar

I would like to replace the word "finish" with "step out", for example, and so have added this line:

Ddd*toolButtons: \
run\nbreak^C\nstep\nstepi\nnext\nnexti\n\
until\nstep out\ncont\n\kill\n\
up\ndown\nBack\nForward\nEdit\nMake

in the file:

/home/me/.ddd/sessions/.ddd/init

Of course I wasn't completely sure this was the correct place, but it looks to be, so this is where I have done it.

This does not appear to have an effect.

What am I missing ?
