2008/4/2 Hoffman, B. Lynn <address@hidden>:

I have a user that is running DDD on a server across our WAN.  He complains that it runs slow.  Is this application written to work well over a WAN connection?

Definitely.  ddd is a front-end to gdb, which needs only a tty.
(By "WAN", I'm assuming that you mean a low-bandwidth link.)

Take a look at the manual, in the section entitled
"Using DDD with a Remote Inferior Debugger".
http://www.gnu.org/manual/ddd/html_mono/ddd.html#Remote%20Debugger

Andrew
