Regardless of whether I get the debian install working, I ultimately 
want to build from source, so I would love to have your install-script.

I'm doing a demo Saturday morning, so this has been an interesting 
experience. :-)  Hopefully I can get things working with the Debian 
packages for the demo, and then get the source build working for regular 
use after that.
