./bootstrap && ./configure

Should work
Ahh...I didn't think bootstrapping first was necessary if re-building (I had assumed that configure took care of aggregating the file lists, but this obviously is wrong).  Indeed, upon first bootstrapping, configure produces a Makefile with my files included.  Thanks much Eric.
