Well, things are close, that's for sure.

I compiled and installed the USRP1 support, after grabbing the
appropriate version of SDCC, and manually
  installing an asx8051.

The dial_tone.py example works just fine, but audio_to_file.py  hangs
for about 20 seconds then bails with an
  error from within alsa:

audio_alsa_source[hw:0,0]: snd_pcm_readi failed: Input/output error


Also, arecord (the alsa generic recording thingy) doesn't record
*anything* from my Logitech headset, although
  all  the alsamixer controls appear to function correctly.

USB audio output from the Sheeva (at least to the Logitech headset)
appears to work.

I hate being a groundbreaker on stuff like this :-)
