Hi John,
you could try and disable OpenGL acceleration for WX Gui. That's usually
not a good thing, and it doesn't always help if your system randomly
hangs in WX things, but if it solves this:
find (or create) your ~/.gnuradio/config.conf and add
[wxgui]
style = nongl
