Hi,

Knowing python is definitely needed for the GRC as that is written in python. Since the view-only mode is a GRC feature python skills should be sufficient. I suggest you start off by becoming familiar with the GRC code, figuring out how things work and trying to modify stuff. That way you'll get a feeling of whether it is manageable or not. Personally, understanding how all parts work and interact with each other has needed more effort than the actual coding.

I've been working on the View Only Mode for GSoC'21 during the summer and am finishing it up this week. If you want to read about what has been done so far you can check out my blog (https://oscekh.github.io/) and look out for the pull request that I'll make later this week.

When the PR is up you could contribute by trying out the feature, reviewing the code, and letting me know of any bugs/feature requests etc.

Then, after GSoC, there will certainly be bugs/feature requests in the issue tracker that you could work on. At the end of GSoC I'll also make a note of things that could be implemented/refined in the view only mode that I didn't have the time for during GSoC.
