I'm moving exactly in this direction.
The in-process part is altmost done.
Plus, when a GWorkspace window get focus, all the dirs will be verified
once and the polling frequency decreased.
(even if, actually, this is an altmost vague thing, due of the focus
problems)
I've taken a look at fam and I'll do something with it too...
