(since you haven't fully understood the problem *smile*)
You got the part that there is some issue how to figure out the
$GNUSTEP_USER_ROOT (especially the Home-Directory) in BOTH
GNUstep.sh and the base-library in the same way.
It differs for me, since the former (GNUstep.sh) sets
GNUSTEP_USER_ROOT to ~xam/GNUstep instead of e.g. /home/xam/GNUstep.
This means application data will be searched in
/home/xam/~xam/GNUstep instead of /home/xam/GNUstep, and since
this directory doesn't exists, the applications won't work
as expected.
