Hi,

I've built binary RPMs of gnustep make/base 1.9.1, gnustep gui/back
0.9.2 and GWorkspace 0.6.3.

I'm wondering, would this activity be of
use to other end-users of GNUstep, i.e. people who just want to use the
apps and would prefer not to have to compile stuff? (Are there any such
end-users apart from me?)

To build packages that are usable by other
people, it would be necessary to set up clean build environments for one
or more popular distros. The packages I have at present wouldn't work
for anyone else, because they were built in a hybrid environment. I
could do a "vanilla" Red Hat 8.0 without much trouble, but maybe that's
too antique by now to be useful.

I'd be willing to make the necessary
investment in disc space and a few "boxed sets" of distros for build
environments, and do the work, if there were enough likely
takers.

Alternatively, if anyone else has such systems already and
would be willing to do the builds, I'd be happy to make the specs
available. (I.e. I've done the easy part of the job!)

So: would this be
of interest and, if so, what distros?

I think this is a pretty useful approach. There should be easy to install binaries for at least the latest SuSE and Red Hat distros in my opinion. There binaries could be made downloadable or even be distributed on CDs.

Hey customer, you want to run our app on your Sun Java Desktop or SuSE 9.0 system? No problem, install GNUstep from this CD and then app XXX from this CD and you are set.

Just my 2 cents...

Regards,

   Andreas
