Hello all,

I'd like to know what choices for a cairo back-end are out there and
how can I get involved. I'd really love to see it ready asap.

Thanks,
Dan Mardale

Here's my plan for the back-cairo for GNUstep.
1. CairoFreeTypeFontInfo : CairoFontInfo
for freetype and for cairo's own (toy) font system.

2. XGCairoSurface : CairoSurface
for x11 and for non-x11 cairo surface (these will replace XWindowBuffer)

3. I'll consider if I should contiinue working on GSNFont so other backend can share nfont info easier than keeping ftfont code in every tree of each back.

4. I'm not focusing for earliness but supremacy. back-art is extremely good and I want to spend time on cleaner and better designs in the mean while
that back-art would serve everyone's needs.

5. I'm in #gnustep on freenode ~ 1am GMT+7, may be we can discuss on
this. If you want to rush this out, I still can give some ideas.
(thus, I'll have to
keep my tree seperately) but it would be best if we can agree on most issues and can join our efforts. In a week my tree should be ready for improvements. (though not much I could see, cairo-back is quite straightforward, except the
fount part)

How does this relate to glitz and opengl?
