Where is the defaults database stored in mac os x? USER_DIR/Library/Preferences/Defaults?

The location for the defaults databases(!) is in ~/Library/Preferences. Each default domain is archived in a file named like the bundle identifier of the application, i.e. com.apple.windowserver.plist. As the name indicates, these are property lists (the XML variant).

I don't know the whereabouts of the NSGlobalDomain archive, though. This is not in ~/Library/Preferences, ~/.MacOSX, /Library/Caches. Maybe someone else knows where it is.

Cheers,
