Hi everybody,

has there anyone a Live CD ready (or nearly ready - I am willing to
beta test) for FOSDEM?

is there anything in the works?

If I remember correctly, from the many times I've read the Etoile mailing list archives, they aren't going to be making a LiveCD anytime in the near future.

Why that? Last year they had one almost ready - what happened to that one?

The FOSDEM 2007 livecd was a temporary solution. It was based on an outdated Ubuntu version and more importantly was difficult to update by not being generated with a script. So it wasn't a viable solution in the long run. I began writing a new livecd solution from scratch in April or May of last year. This solution is based on a set of scripts and allows to automatically generate a new livecd by typing a single command. However I decided to give up temporarily few months later for various reasons. The testing of the scripts was very time-consuming. I discovered that Étoilé set up script has to be rewritten and I also don't know sh very well. I had to choose between spending a lot of time on this livecd and working on other important Étoilé stuff. These livecd scripts are 80 % done, they mostly need testing to work as expected and refinements. They don't depend on Étoilé, so it should be very easy to customize them to generate a GNUstep livecd by skipping Étoilé related stuff. If anybody is interested to work on them, I would be glad to help.

You can find these scripts and utility resources here: <http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/etoile/trunk/Etoile/LiveCD/ >

Cheers,
Quentin.
