Hi,
   I got my problem solved. I just installed gnustep GUI i.e step 2 in
"http://wiki.gnustep.org/index.php/GNUstep_under_Ubuntu_Linux"; and
everything worked like a magic. 
   But I wonder how will installing GUI will resolve the problem. I had
installed all the libraries required though.
