I think userbase or the number of developers at GitHub are very valid
causes for using it as long as it doesn't cut our freedoms.

So using it is ok for me but maybe you would like to have some fallback
mirror in case Microsoft plans to shut everything down it doesn't like.
I suggest using codeberg.org here. It's a new German registered
association ("e.V.", a NPO/NGO) providing code hosting that's really
free (as in speech).

It can be used in conjunction of CI tools such as drone.io as well as
described here: https://thomas-leister.de/en/drone-ci-with-codeberg/
