HTTP typically happens over a TCP connection.
I did not discuss the protocol that the client uses for talking
with the deamon. I think it is quite possible that HTTP may be
suitable for this, and if it is suitable then I think we should
use it and not create soemthing new.

Why not? Apache is a daemon, too.
