Since the code of the Wine project is LGPL'd, there is no copyright
problem with re-using some of their code if/when it is helpful to
do so. For files which are in some way derived from Wine, we must
leave their copyright notice intact and add ours. In addition, we'd
add a notice which gives credit to the Wine project and which makes
clear that we've changed the file, and give the dates of the change.

For example, like this:

"""
 * This file contains code from the Wine project which we have ported
 * for use in the DotGNU project (September 18-19, 2003)
 * Copyright 1994 Alexandre Julliard
 * Copyright 2003 Free Software Foundation
"""

If/when we do this, we need to inform the FSF about this, so that
they will know to properly acknowledge this when filing the copyright
registration.

NOTE: What I wrote above applies specifically to re-using code from
a non-GNU Free Software project such as Wine. Code which is written
_for_ DotGNU Portable.NET should be copyright-assigned to the FSF or
to Southern Storm).

BTW, maybe it would make sense to leave some files in C? (cscc can
compile C, even though so far only small parts of the glibc have been
ported.)

Greetings, Norbert.
