Err.  Let me try to clarify:

All of Tramp works fine with the current pattern, except for this
copy-file situation that was brought up recently by a user.

My feeling was that since overlapping filename patterns almost work
right already, we might wish to go the extra couple of feet to make it
work just right.  (Alas, that requires fiddling with ange-ftp or with
the standard copy-file function.)

But since you tell me that overlapping filename patterns are not
_supposed_ to work (even though they almost do), I will change the
Tramp filename pattern.
