I was assuming (perhaps wishfully) that Emacs could convert between Cyrillic and Latinic Serbocroatian. I am sure it can (if someone programs it). This conversion is trivial. Having both character sets in one file is also easy. What's hard is to save a file that contains both scripts. Handa says you must use emacs-mule to handle all those characters at once.
