He would like to be able to use the mouse to select text from the echo
area. It is a reasonable goal, so I tried implementing it. I
discovered that there is really no way to do this correctly, because
it requires a feature on our TODO list: indentation functions that
understand fonts.

I've asked a few times for someone to please implement this facility.
Now I can only ask again: would someone please volunteer to do it?

Gentlemen, consider when one sees a yummy piece of text in the
minibuffer, that one wishes to snarf up with the mouse, e.g,
Wrote /home/jidanni/News/drafts/drafts/30

One says, "I will snarf this filename up because I want to use it in
an rxvt window elsewhere".

One reaches down with the mouse and...
mouse-minibuffer-check: Minibuffer window is not active [4 times]

yet another slap in the face :-)

Oh, I know what you're saying: "Go to the *Messages* buffer, silly, or
next time use emacs -nw, or 0 w in dired, M-x yow, etc., get a life, holmes"

But I'm saying: well gosh, being that the "Minibuffer window is not
active", then do you really mind if I want to take what I see there
home as a souvenir? Or must you play hard to get with the slap in the
face and then the message goes bye-bye?

I mean it's not like I'm trying to play cut and paste on the modeline,
oh no.
