The viper manual has this:

    @node Improved Search, Abbreviation Facilities, Completion, Improvements
over Vi
    @section Improved Search

    @cindex buffer search
    @cindex word search

    Viper provides buffer search, the ability to search the buffer for a region
    under the cursor. You have to turn this on in @file{.viper} either by

    @end example

    or by setting @code{viper-buffer-search-char} to, say, @kbd{f3}:
    (setq viper-buffer-search-char ?g)
    @end example

It is obvious that the last sentence (referring to <f3>) and the Lisp
code (referring to g) do not match.

However, I hesitate to just replace @kbd{f3} with @kbd{g} because g is
the default setting. I also hesitate to change the Lisp example
because the docstring for viper-buffer-search-char says that it needs
to be a character, and <f3> is not a character.

Does anyone know what to do?
