               info libc FUNCTION

1) then users have to know what manual to look in.
2) in practice, manuals don't contain every function in their top-level
   menu, to my knowledge.

However, having a 1700-element entry in the top level of libc does sound
better to me than having a 1700-element dir listing, in terms of the
choices available now.
