However, this doesn't help: the compilation of each one of these 6
files now dies with a different message:

  In toplevel form:
  mh-e/mh-utils.el:55:1:Error: Invalid function: (macro lambda nil (if (eq (car

(Anyway, I don't think that users should be required to remove old
.elc files in this case.)
