Ok, the multi-tty branch has been merged into the trunk.

No doubt some things have broken as a result (I haven't tested it).

There are two CVS tags:

   "before-merge-multi-tty-to-trunk" (immediate pre-merge)
   "merge-multi-tty-to-trunk" (immediately post-merge)

I left the file "README.multi-tty" in place, although much of its
contents is inappropriate for the trunk; I guess maybe some of the
text in that file should be moved elsewhere before removing it.
