The introduction of a new Lisp data type for this purpose looks rather
unusual compared with what other kinds of existing objects do.
We should not create a new data type for status icons unless there is
a compelling reason for it -- that is to say, not making the data type
would imply serious problems or ugliness.
What is the motive for this data type? Is it so as to handle X events
for the icon?
