Yes, that is a problem. If the reason for enabling TMM by default is to make life easier for new users, then I think it is not enough of an improvement without also enabling selection with Shift-movement keys. If enabling TMM by default upsets many long-time users, then perhaps it is better to only enable temporary-TMM when the Shift-movement keys are used to select, and leave the behaviour of traditional Emacs keys alone.
