???xdg-email is a command intended mostly for automated use that launches the user's preferred (in their desktop environment's settings) email client, such as thunderbird or evolution or kmail (or even emacs) with a message open and ready to be sent (possibly after further review and editing).
As it opens the desktop user's preferred email client, it's most likely to be actually already configured with correct outgoing settings.
