No it is not faster.

If I need to edit something, I'll alread have an ssh session open to
that box.  >emacs foo< is a hell of a lot faster than switching to a
different (window manager) workspace and typing all of that....

And, often, the editing I'm doing is an automated call to $EDITOR.
So it has to run local to the remote box anyway.

Further, testing shows that although tramp logs in to the remote box, it
never gets past waiting for prompts.  So it isn't just slower; it doesn't
work at all.

(Not to mention the secondary gnus instance I run on one of my servers.)
