Here is the (once more) finalized patch, with the above mentioned workaround for NT4. This has now been tested successfully as a 32-bit build on NT4, Win2k, Win7 and Win10, and as a 64-bit build on Win7 and Win10, both in windowed and console (-nw) mode on all the platforms.
