The lambdas work on the locally bound variables, so I've been staring at
that code for a couple of minutes to decide whether there's a trivial
fix here, and I don't quite see it.

But, yes, I could just bind up/down to the same lambdas, and I think
I'll just do that immediately and further customisation can be left as a
future exercise. :-)
