There are differences in GCC struct layout between MS-Windows and GNU/Linux; see the GCC option -mms-bitfields. I expect it's the usual story about platforms making different tradeoffs between backward compatibility vs performance. I wasn't aware of the 'long long' alignment issue until now, though.
