Hi:

If I set a different value to display-fill-column-indicator with
customize-variable and save; the display should be updated to use the
new value right? (display the indicator or hide it)

I have never used customize-variable, so maybe that's not the expected
behavior.

Or it requires to reboot?

It happens when I use set-variable.

No

Maybe I don't understand the situation. Can you describe what you
did, step by step, that you expected to change the appearance of the
indicator, but didn't?
