I'm sorry, I don't remember.  This was many years ago.  Please look in

IANAL, but I think it has to be GPL v2+ at least.  And perhaps we
would also need the copyright assigned to the FSF.

Once again, this is a non-trivial job to do, a discussion in a mailing
list will not solve it, trust me.
