Perhaps you meant "more visual detail", then? Because it's hard to beat black-on-white on contrast.I suppose I can also agree that these are a little simplistic. But they keep in one style, and won't give a random new user impression than Emacs hasn't been updated since the 2000s.
Might a different icon set work even better? Sure. Alternative proposals are probably welcome too, but see Stefan's full post for caveats.
