[emms-help] playing files via ssh/tramp/rsync/eshell

I have a login to another machine but I can't really set up servers on it.
I would like to play mp3 from that machine.
It seems like this should be possible since emms together with tramp
have all the necessary components.
However, simply giving emms remote paths like
/myremoteserver:/usr/local/mp3/x.mp3 does not work.
At least not out of the box.
I suspect emms is trying to play the files on the remote machine via eshell.

Any advice would be appreciated.
