I've found fabric to be quite helpful for me recently, and I also find that I
always need fabric on a system that doesn't yet have it downloaded (or it's
dramatically out of date). I'm also not a fan of installing anything in the
root filesystem (as opposed to somewhere with user write access) in a system
that has package management.
Since I use Ubuntu on most of these systems, I've created a package for Fabric
0.9 which can be browsed here:
https://edge.launchpad.net/~rockstar/+archive
If you're also running hardy, then you can easily grab the packages by adding
the following to your sources.list
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/rockstar/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/rockstar/ubuntu hardy main
Then an `apt-get update && apt-get install python-fabric` will install fabric on
your system.
