I would be interested to have your take on this and how we can help
better the chances of FOSS in funding bids -- ideally to feed in to this

Hi Adam

The concept behind your work appeals to me. The creation of a knowledge
transfer network to enable the production, publishing and distribution
of learning and community media is rather important, especially in a
FOSS context.

I'm in contact with an educational board in Japan who are just starting
to build an eLearning framework for their school system. It will cover
around 100 schools, dealing with thousands of students. It would be
great if they could use FOSS systems to do this, rather than end up
using a closed system.

I agree and this resonates with our early work:

( We have been recently introduced to http://www.pollenation.net/ by a Department of Trade and Industry funding initiative, and have had preliminary discussions about co-developing code modifications to appropriate FOSS for this kind of work. As an aside, the consensus at the moment seems to be for Plone. )

The Japanese challenge is rather unique, as FOSS alternatives are not
highly regarded. Companies are trusted to implement systems, and that
usually means a company placing their favorite closed product into
whatever projects they are involved with.

Our local International Trade centre are keen for us to export to Japan and have a dedicated specialist http://www.syitc.com/japan_link.htm -- they have offered us help and advice and a 50 % match to £ 6 k for travel, shows and pitches.

I'll contact you off-list to talk more.

Thanks Shane

Best regards
