having read http://www.selenic.com/mercurial/wiki/UpgradeNotes i guess it should be save to upgrade to 1.2 but 1.1 has some high-cpu-usage issue that was not clear to me if it would apply to our use-case. real break in compatibility occurred with 0.9 and 0.9.2 only.
