problems using gnokii with NOKIA- 3310

Dear all
   getting problems in using gnokii.i have gone thro
the details of mailer archeve list but unable to fix
the problems,i am sending the details of what i have
done.
* copied /etc/gnokiirc into home as .gnokiirc which
contain
  port = /dev/ttyS0
  model = 3310
  initlength = default
  TELEPHONE = 12345678
  connection = serial
  bindir= /usr/sbin
  timeout = 10
  use_locking = yes
* when i run 
  $gnokii --sendsms 9821298963 "hi"

output:-
GNOKII Version 0.5.0pre
Telephone interface init failed: Command timed out.
Quitting.

* when i run xgnokii
 $xgnokii

 output:- (it shows connecting)then
GSM/FBUS init failed!
Gdk-ERROR **: Fatal IO error 9 (Bad file descriptor)
on X server ¸áB¸áB.

* when i run gnokiid
 $gnokiid 

 output:-
 GNOKIID Version 0.5.0pre
Initialising GSM
GSM/FBUS init failed!
VM_Initialise - VM_GSMInitialise failed!


  even i have checked  /dev/ttyS0 using statserial for
the 9pin.
  
kindly suggest me how to fix this problem
