gnokii 0.4.3 / nokia 6310i: only permits single operation

Hi

I'm running gnokii 0.4.3 with a 6310i on freebsd. I'm experiencing a
repeatable problem where I can perform any single operation with the
phone, but any subsequent operation will fail.  THe only fix or to
unplug and replug the serial cable to the phone.

For example:

I can repeat this on demand.  Any pointers appreciated.
