SMSD RFQ: message reference number usage

Hi,

The question is primarily aimed at smsd users.
The thing is that with every message being sent (to be more precise:
with every part being sent) we got reference number for that part. The
reference number is some ID that SMSC has given to the message. It is
not unique, but if you are not sending hundreds of messages it's
usually unique enough. The thing is, that if you request delivery
report, it contains the same reference number. So this number
correlates outgoing message and delivery report.

The question is: is such correlation useful? Can anybody make use of
it? Does it make sense to implement it in SMSD?
