Yes cable is a CA-101 type which gets data transferred but does not charge the phone By using the cdc-acm driver, i have established an AT based link to the phone now.
This helps reading / writing the phonebook.

I assume you have double checked you have correct cable and it is DKU2-like.

It basically means no answer from the phone. Or something is taking
over the replies. Or some kernel driver conflicts.

Showing output from lsusb could give some clue.
Note: listing is done as non-root
