Hello,

Over in Debian, we have various tools for working with Debian source
packages. One such tool, cvs-buildpackage, has existed for some time
and worked as well as can be expected given the constraints of CVS.

I today uploaded tla-buildpackage to unstable (it should show up
shortly).  Its features are:

 This package helps automate and ease the task of maintaining Debian
 packages by helping you, the Debian developer, take advantage of
 the unique features in tla/Arch. The programs included are:
 .
 tbp-initarchive: Initialize an archive and working directory for use
 with tla-buildpackage.
 .
 tbp-importdsc: Import an upstream version and a Debian version from
 a Debian source package, automatically detecting package and version
 information from the .dsc.
 .
 tbp-importorig: Import an upstream tar.gz or directory.
 .
 tbp-markdeb: Mark a working copy for future reference.
 .
 tla-buildpackage: Builds a Debian package based on information in
 the repository, checking out Debian and upstream versions as necessary.
 .
 Also, the package includes a comprehensive 24-page manual in PostScript and
 HTML versions.

You may obtain it from:

       $ tla register-archive address@hidden \
         http://arch.complete.org/projects
       $ tla get \
         address@hidden/tla-buildpackage-configs--head--1.0 \
         tla-buildpackage
       $ cd tla-buildpackage
       $ tla buildcfg tla-buildpackage

Additionally, I am announcing a public archive that will eventually
house the packages I maintain for Debian. A few are already present.
It is address@hidden from
http://arch.debian.org/arch/private/jgoerzen/debian.

Some of you may be interested to note the presense of arch.debian.org.
It contains the Linux kernel project I announced here some time back,
as well as work areas for various Debian developers. I note that
cvs-buildpackage now is present in an Arch repository, but there by
its author :-) (that author is Manoj)
